My Sony TV has maintained a continuous connection with MinimServer. I have only spent an hour or so with it, but both times that I have power cycled the upsampler (to recapture the Synology unit) the connection has gone on to fail. I’m starting to think that UPnP is short for “you Pay and Pay?” I was hoping to pack up the TPLink switch, wrap it in pretty paper and bows, then send it to Andrew at dCS along with a insipid fan letter…BUT…the upsampler still reverts to “No UPnP servers available” within 15 minutes of launching it. It is nice to have a true plug and play device. *The Netgear switch arrived this afternoon and I couldn’t put it into use quickly enough.
Unfortunately, the Netgear GS 108 did not do the trick. If you are unable to resolve this with the dCS, we can try putting an inexpensive router in front of the Eero to disable multicast broadcasting.Īpparently, this has happened with both the long-time MinimServer version, 0.8.5.3, and the newly released 2.0 Unfortunately, Eero does not have any settings to adjust or disable multicast broadcasting.

This could be a result of multicast advertisements failing to update on the dCS side of things. To reiterate, files were rendered via UPnP/MinimServer while the Mosaic reported “No UPnP servers available”.Īnd, from the technician who installed the Eero system:Īs far as the dCS is concerned, it is odd that the connection drops.
Today this happened even while listening to normal playback of files located on the Synology NAS, rendered via UPnP/ MinimServer. Selecting UPnP in Mosaic (on the other hand) yields “No UPnP servers available”. The Mosaic app has always maintained communication with the upsampler and Qobuz (and previously TIDAL) streaming has remained unaffected, except when system wide network problems have arisen. He has recently changed his LAN equipment to an Eero system, but he says this particular problem predates the network equipment change. I tried a similar approach when it was iTunes and I had a bunch of music on my Synology.We have a client with a Vivaldi system ( sans transport) that is reporting problems maintaining contact with MinimServer running on a Synology NAS array. You then can end up with it thinking some files are here, others there, and trying to wrangle this is meh.

Don’t bother though as if the Mac cannot see that location and you open Apple Music it invariably creates a fresh local folder. If you want to use Apple Music to play the NAS content you need to change the preferences for your music storage location. I’ve found myself airplay-ing from iPhone or Mac direct to my amp. I’m retiring my old optical out Apple TV as it doesn’t do airplay with my newer stuff. Seems like hard work and you then need a TV to see what you’re selecting. ‘Old HiFi’ amp? Line in and optical in and no HDMI? You can pick up old Apple TVs with optical out and no doubt hack them to play your files. Don’t bother unless you have golden ears or the BT turns out to be crummy for reasons of dropouts. Someone will be along to say ‘get a cable’ to connect your phone or max to the amp. Well, after streaming from Apple Music or Spotify from your Mac or phone. Run plex on a WD MyDrive? I was sceptical but seems it is a thing: There are other ways of skinning this cat, but plex is awesome, and you’ve already got a NAS, so you’re 95% of the way there already. If you pay for a “plex pass” (which you can do by the month to try it out or “lifetime”) you get a MUCH better music player on your phone (PlexAmp, it’s awesome), which also allows you to save the music locally on your phone. This can be a bit finicky, as it depends on your broadband provider.
You can set-up your plex server so it works over 4/5G when you are away from your home network. More of a problem with Video files, but I thought I’d mention it.
Plex should run on it, but if it’s an ancient unit, you might run into difficulties, particularly if your music files are in a wierd format (ogg vorbis anyone?), which it then tries to encode into something else, so the client can play it.

You then install the plex client on your phone, and link it to the server.

You basically load the plex server software onto your NAS, point it at the content you’ve got saved, and it should recognize it all, index it etc.
